The June 4-5 Volatility in State Spending for Higher Education conference at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign will focus on the impact of unpredictable state funding on students and postsecondary institutions. College of Education Associate Professor Jennifer Delaney, the director of the Forum on the Future of Public Education, is the conference organizer.
Experts on higher education finance, researchers from different universities, and members of organizations will examine during the conference the implications of unpredictable state funding for student completion rates, faculty hiring, and research productivity. The event will be organized around five main research questions and will highlight 12 new areas of scholarship by varied researchers.
“In an era of intense concern about higher education affordability, I am delighted to bring together leading scholars to share new, original scholarship on volatility in state support for higher education,” Delaney said.
Keynote speakers of the event will include Al Bowman, executive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and William Zumeta, a professor of public policy and governance and higher education at the University of Washington, Seattle.
The conference is free and open to the public, but participants must pre-register.
