College's faculty members to discuss research at annual AERA meeting

This year’s theme: “The Power of Education Research for Innovation in Practice and Policy"

College faculty members and graduate students will present research 2014 AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphiaposters, as well as participate in panel discussions and roundtables about critical education topics, at the American Educational Research Association’s annual meeting on April 3-7 in Philadelphia. Our faculty and students will cover a wide scope of topics ranging from cutting-edge research on bullying to fostering culturally relevant and appropriate learning environments for diverse learners.

In addition, faculty members and students are being recognized and remembered at this year’s annual meeting:

• Walter Feinberg, John Dewey Lifetime Achievement Award
• Cris Mayo, Queer Studies SIG Body of Work Award
• Dr. Anjalé D. Welton, Ms. Rachel Moyer, several University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) graduate students, and the students from the Social Justice Class at Illinois Urbana High School (UHS) have won the 2014 AERA Leadership for Social Justice SIG Bridge People Award
• Susan E. Noffke (posthumously), Legacy Award from the AERA Division K, Teaching and Teacher Education
• Gabriel “Joey” Merrin, chair-elect of the Graduate Student Council (GSC), to join the AERA Council in 2015-16

AERA Reception

Please join Dean Mary Kalantzis and faculty members from the College at the AERA Reception on Saturday, April 5, from 7-9 p.m., at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 108-B. AERA’s Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of scholars in the field of education research. The event is a showcase for ground-breaking and innovative studies in a diverse array of areas such as early education through higher education, digital learning, and second-language literacy. Ideas and data discussed at the meeting shape tomorrow's education practices and policies and connect leading thinkers from the U.S. and around the world.
